James Fister, Music Director

James Fister joined Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church as the Music Director in March 2011. Jim is a lifelong Lutheran who has been involved in church music since he was a child singing in the junior choir of his home church -- St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Allentown, Pa. He began playing the organ for church services at 16, and has served congregations in Orlando, Fla., Horseheads, N.Y., and Quakertown, Reading and the Pittsburgh area in Pennsylvania. He was the organist and choir director at Grace Lutheran Church in Crescent, Pa., before coming to Hope.

Jim studied piano at the Clark Johnson Piano School of Allentown and studied organ at his home church and with Ludwig Lenel at Muhlenberg College, also in Allentown. Jim earned a degree in mathematics from Muhlenberg, and he works as a manager of software development for CA Technologies in Pittsburgh. Jim and his wife, Pam, live in Cranberry Township. In his spare time, Jim enjoys travelling and photography.

Jim's philosophy is: “I am here to serve the congregation and to help them in worshipping God. Everything I do needs to be toward that goal. Bach, at the end of many of his compositions, wrote S.D.G., and that pretty much sums things up. S.D.G. is Latin for Soli Deo Gloria, meaning to God alone be the glory.”

Favorite Scripture Passage: (Ecclesiastes 3:1) “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
